Our Goal
From throughout our community and around the world, children in need of medical care come to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital to receive leading-edge care from our superbly trained doctors. Our medical staff has grown from 72 pediatric physicians at our opening in 1992 to 476 today. Clearly, a new and expanded Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital is needed to care for the increasing number of families with children who turn to us at their time of need. On October 5, 2009, the historical groundbreaking of the new Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital took place. It was the first step of our construction journey. Tour De Broward/Walk, Run and Ride for Joe’s Kids hopes to raise $250,000 to contribute towards this expansion of services for the children of our community.

About the new Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital
Plans include a new freestanding 4-story children’s hospital with pediatric operating rooms, a 24-bed medical and surgical unit, a 24-bed cancer treatment unit, and a walkway that connects the new hospital with the existing children’s hospital and the Memorial Regional Hospital campus. In addition, the Wasie Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has been expanded and renovated and now includes private rooms and upgraded technological systems. The smallest of babies can now receive the greatest of care.
Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital is a Center of Excellence for Cardiac treatment, and is the only hospital performing pediatric open heart surgery in Broward and Palm Beach Counties. Its prestigious Pediatric Dialysis program has earned distinction for treatment of young patients experiencing kidney failure and end stage renal disease and is the only program of its kind in Broward and Palm Beach Counties. Over the past 8 years, the hospital has seen a 107% increase in volume in surgical cases – the new surgical unit will feature seven leading-edge operating rooms, 24 private rooms and will eliminate unnecessary transporting of patients to other areas of the hospital. It is also the only hospital in Broward and Palm Beach Counties performing pediatric cardiac catheterizations in addition to pediatric open heart surgery.
Our Cystic Fibrosis and Pulmonary Center is a designated Center of the National Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and provides some of the latest treatment protocols for CF Cystic Fibrosis patients.
Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital is one of only 13 Pediatric Trauma Centers in Florida. It also has the busiest Pediatric Emergency Department in Broward and Palm Beach Counties.
